Planning for Your
Treatment Journey
Advances in cell and gene therapy are making new types of personalized treatment possible for a range of medical conditions, including RDEB. For many patients, engaging in personalized cell sheet-based gene therapy will be a new experience.
It will be important that you work with your specialized care team at the Qualified Treatment Center (QTC) to create your personalized journey. Abeona Assist is here to provide clarity around the ZEVASKYN treatment process and support you throughout the entire experience.
Here is what you can expect:
Identify a Qualified Treatment Center (QTC)
The first step in the process is to schedule a medical consultation with a healthcare professional at a QTC. During this appointment, the healthcare professional will review your medical history and evaluate your overall health to determine if ZEVASKYN is a suitable option for you.
Please note: ZEVASKYN QTCs are independently owned and operated. Abeona Therapeutics does not oversee any treatment centers or the medical care they provide.
ZEVASKYN Treatment Planning with a QTC Physician
If you and your doctor determine that ZEVASKYN is the right option for you, the next step is to plan your personalized treatment. This process will involve a biopsy, manufacturing, and a surgical procedure at the QTC. Patients are hospitalized for 5-10 days following the surgical application of ZEVASKYN. Your Patient Navigator can assist you by reviewing your benefits, identifying financial assistance options, and offering logistical support for your biopsy or procedure.
Biopsy & ZEVASKYN Therapy Manufacturing
Your biopsy will be performed at the QTC. Your Patient Navigator can assist you in planning your visit while also providing support and guidance for your family and caregivers. After the biopsy, your cells will be sent off to undergo a manufacturing process that will take ~25 days. During this time, your Patient Navigator can keep you informed and assist with coordinating travel and logistics for your upcoming surgical procedure.
ZEVASKYN Surgical Application at QTC
Once manufacturing is complete, you and your caregiver will travel back to the QTC to undergo surgical application of ZEVASKYN. After your surgical procedure, you will remain at the Qualified Treatment Center for 5-10 days with your ZEVASKYN-treated wounds immobilized to allow for healing.
Your Patient Navigator can continue to provide information regarding billing, reimbursement information, and long-term follow-up.

What is ZEVASKYN & Important Safety Information
What is ZEVASKYN?
ZEVASKYN™ (prademagene zamikeracel) is a type of gene therapy made from your own skin cells that is surgically applied to treat wounds in both children and adults who have recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB).
Important Safety Information
- Serious allergic reactions to ZEVASKYN can occur. Get medical help right away if you or your child experience symptoms like itching, swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, runny nose, watery eyes, or nausea. In rare cases, a severe reaction called anaphylaxis may happen.
- There is a potential risk that treatment with ZEVASKYN may contribute to the development of cancer because of how the therapy works. Patients should be monitored for the rest of their lives to check for any signs of cancer.
- ZEVASKYN is made using human and animal materials. Although these materials are tested before use, the risk of passing on infections cannot be eliminated.
- The most common side effects are pain from the procedure and itching.
This is not a complete list of side effects. Call your care team for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to Abeona at 1-844-888-2236 or FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or www.fda.gov/medwatch.
Post-Application Care
- You may feel pain or itching at the treated area as it heals. Contact your doctor if you have: fever, increased drainage, worsening pain or swelling, or any other symptoms at or near the treated area.
- Do not disturb the surgical dressing for 5–10 days, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
- Keep the dressing(s) dry. Do not soak the treated area(s) in water (like in a bath or pool) until the gauze backing falls off of the treated area(s), approximately 2–3 weeks after the surgery.
Product Manufacturing
- ZEVASKYN is made from your own skin cells. In rare cases, the manufacturing process may not work. If this happens, your doctor may suggest taking another skin biopsy to repeat the manufacturing process.
